Moron Photos 2188th Communications Squadron

THESE NEW PHOTO'S OF MORON AFB, SPAIN WERE SUBMITTED BY BRUCE ARO, BRUCE WAS A MEMBER OF THE 2188TH COMMUNICATIONS SQ, A NON SAC SQ THAT PREFORMED THE MAINTENANCE ON THE GCA EQUIPMENT, LOCALIZER, GLIDE SLOPE, INNER MARKER, OUTER MARKER, AND CONTROL TOWER, SEVERAL OF HIS PHOTOS HAVE APPEARED IN AF PUBLICATIONS, BRUCE ARRIVED AT MORON SEPTEMBER 1962 AND ROTATED BACK TO THE ZI FOR DISCHARGE SEPTEMBER 1965. WE THANK BRUCE FOR SHARING HIS PHOTOS WITH OUR WEB SITE,  THEY ADD TO THE HISTORY OF MORON WHEN IT WAS A MAJOR SAC BASE DURING THE COLD WAR. BRUCE WAS ALSO WAS AT MORON WHEN THE B-58 RAN OFF THE RUNWAY ATTEMPTING TO LAND OVER THE NAVAIDS EQUIPMENT.

I arrived in Madrid in Sept. 1962 along with two guys I went through tech school with at Keesler AFB, Ed Poirier and Dave Wall. We were supposed to go Zaragosa but were switched to Moron. I don't know how Zaragosa may have been but I can't imagine it could have better duty than Moron. After all we had Seville, Torremolinos, Granada, Gib. and so many other places. I really lucked out because when at Keesler I caught pneumonia and as a result was put into a later class which got me to Spain.
